NSA Announces 2012 CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame Inductees

(TEMPE, Ariz.–July 24, 2012)  The National Speakers Association (NSA), the leading organization for professional speakers, inducted five professional speakers into the CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame® at its 2012 Convention, July 14-17, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Established in 1977, the Council of Peers Award for Excellence (CPAE) is an award for speaking excellence and professionalism given to speakers who have mastered seven categories: material, style, experience, delivery, image, professionalism and communication.  The award is not based on celebrity status, number of speeches, amount of income, or involvement in NSA.

The 2012 inductees are: Steve Gilliland, Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), CPAE of Mocksville, North Carolina; Sally Hogshead, CPAE, of Orlando, Florida; Ross Shafer, CPAE, of Parker, Colorado; Peter Sheahan, CSP, CPAE, of Centennial, Colorado; and Terri Sjodin, CSP, CPAE, of Newport Beach, California.

“These professionals are fantastic additions to the CPAE,” said NSA President Laura Stack, CSP.  “Each one represents a shining example of the best our profession has to offer.”

Steve Gilliland, CSP, CPAE, is recognized by his peers as a master storyteller and comedian. More than two million people have heard him speak, with his audiences crossing over 29 industries. Steve has the distinction of speaking in all 50 states and in 15 countries. In addition to his speaking career, Steve is a prolific, accomplished author, evidenced by his book Enjoy The Ride™ being on the publisher’s bestseller list for seven consecutive years. Steve built a multi-million dollar company from the ground up, which the Pittsburgh Business Times named one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the region. Steve was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area, resides in North Carolina and travels the world. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Grove City College (PA) and his MBA from Globe University (MN).

Sally Hogshead, CPAE, is the authority on the science of fascination. In 2012, Sally’s company launched the first test to calculate a personal brand, named The Fascination Advantage™. As the CEO and founder of Fascinate, Inc., she has tested more than 100,000 participants. Her book, Fascinate, has been published in 14 languages. HarperCollins will soon release Sally’s next book: How the World Sees You. Sally’s 2012 schedule includes keynotes for Million DollarRound Table, GE, Intel, Cisco, Inc. Leadership, PCMA, Women’s Foodservice Forum, YPO, Intuit, and International Association of Speakers’ Bureaus. At age 27 she opened her first advertising agency, and went on to lead campaigns for some of the best known brands in world, including MINI Cooper, Nike and Coca-Cola. Her work hangs in the Smithsonian Museum of American History.

Ross Shafer, CPAE, is an Emmy winning comedian and host of local and national news programs and game shows, including Match Game, Days End and ALMOST LIVE, which resulted in he and his team collecting 36 Emmys. To date, Ross has produced 14 human resource training films on customer service, motivation, leadership and peer pressure. He has authored Nobody Moved Your Cheese, Customer Empathy, The Customer Shouts Back and his newly released Are You Relevant? 12 Reasons Smart Organizations Thrive in Any Economy. Today, Ross is one of the most sought after keynote speakers and seminar leaders on the subjects of customer empathy, personal motivation and business relevance.

Peter Sheahan, CSP, CPAE, is founder and CEO of ChangeLabs™, a global consultancy delivering large-scale behavioral change projects for clients such as Apple and IBM. Peter has worked with some of the world’s leading brands in the area of innovation and change. Terri Sjodin, CSP, CPAE, is the principal and founder of Sjodin Communications, a public speaking, sales training and consulting firm. For more than twenty years, Terri has served as a speaker and consultant to an impressive list of Fortune 500 companies, industry associations, academic conferences, CEOs and Members of the United States Congress.
