Takei, a Japanese American who from age 4 to 8 was unjustly interned in two U.S. internment camps during World War II, is an outspoken supporter of human right issues and community activist. Takei is chairman emeritus and a trustee of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. The openly gay Takei has served as the spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign "Coming Out Project," and was cultural affairs chairman of the Japanese American Citizens League. He was appointed to the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission by former President Clinton and the government of Japan awarded Takei the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, for his contribution to U.S. - Japanese relations. The decoration was conferred by His Majesty, Emperor Akihito, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. In 2007, Asteroid 7307 Takei, located between Mars and Jupiter, was named in the performer's honor in appreciation for his social work.

Mark Scharenbroich, CSP, CPAE

While earning a degree in mass communications at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, Mark wrote, directed and performed in a comedy troupe called Mom’s Apple Pie. The group performed together throughout the Midwest in the ’70s, and when it disbanded, Mark went solo and combined his comedy training with motivational speaking.

Soon after, Mark was employed by Jostens — the leading manufacturer of class rings, yearbooks and graduation products — to speak to their customers throughout North America. In 1981 Mark was featured in a film called The Greatest Days of Your Life…(So Far), which was seen by millions of viewers worldwide. It earned him the Golden Apple and Silver Screen film awards.

Mark left Jostens to create a communications company, and became noted in education as a leading expert in the area of leadership and student engagement. He then expanded his message of employee engagement into the association and corporate market.

Education Credits: Event attendees will earn two (2) education credits per day if registered as a daily registrant or eight (8) credits if registered as a full registrant toward the renewal of the Certified Speaking Professional® (CSP) designation.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellation notices must be sent in writing (email acceptable) to NSA headquarters. A refund of your registration fee minus a $50 processing fee per meeting cancelled is available until 30 days prior to the start of the meeting. No refunds are available within 30 days of the start of the meeting.
